Staff Software Engineer

The company is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the team that owns Checkout, Post-Purchase, Smart Flows, and A/B Testing — the surfaces a shopper sees during and after checkout on Shopify, plus the tools merchants use to run experiments. The role spans Shopify checkout extensions, PHP services, a TypeScript API, MySQL, and a BigQuery event pipeline, with responsibility for rebuilding experimentation reporting and building robust REST APIs. The engineer keeps production healthy through root-cause investigation, logging and metrics improvements, and on-call rotation, working AI-first with Claude Code across development, review, and testing. This is a small, high-autonomy team where the engineer works directly with the Product Manager and peers, takes ambiguous problems and shapes solutions, and mentors by example beyond their own surfaces.
