Director of Engineering

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader to lead our mission-critical McAfee ecommerce transaction systems, including Checkout and Retail Redemptions platforms that power global revenue. This leader will own the architecture, scalability, reliability, and modernization of systems built on Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Vue.js front-end, and Node.js (TypeScript)-based microservices.

This role is not a people management role. This role requires a hands-on technology leader who can dive deep into architecture and code when needed, leverage AI-powered engineering tools to improve team productivity, and use data to drive decision-making and revenue impact

This position is for candidates who are in Bangalore, India only. You will be required to be in office on need basis, typically 3-4 days per month. We are only considering candidates within a commutable distance to this location and are not offering relocation assistance at this time.About the Role:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Own end-to-end architecture for Checkout and Retail redemption systems.
• Lead front-end architecture using Vue.js and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
• Drive backend architecture and scalability using Node.js (TypeScript) microservices.
• Champion modern engineering practices: CI/CD, observability, resilience patterns, API-first design.

AI-Driven Engineering Productivity

• Embed AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-based assistants, automated test generation) into engineering workflows.
• Improve developer productivity through AI-assisted code reviews, test automation, documentation generation, and incident analysis.
• Establish measurable productivity metrics and continuously optimize engineering velocity.

Data-Driven Decision Making

• Use transaction, funnel, and redemption data to identify system bottlenecks and revenue leakage.
• Partner with Product, Analytics, and Finance to drive data-informed prioritization.
• Monitor KPIs such as conversion rate, latency, error rates, payment success rates, and system SLAs.
• Drive experimentation (A/B testing) and performance optimization.

People Leadership

• Lead and grow high-performing distributed engineering teams.
• Mentor engineering managers, architects and senior engineers.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and innovation.
• Align engineering roadmaps with business and revenue goals.

About You:

Experience

• 15+ years in software engineering, with 8+ years in engineering leadership with proven experience leading transactional or eCommerce systems at scale.
• Strong hands-on experience in Node.js (TypeScript), Microservices architecture with Vue.js front-end development and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar CMS-driven checkout experiences
• Experience in high-availability payment systems or checkout platforms preferred.

Technical Depth

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, API design, and event-driven architectures.
• Strong knowledge of observability, performance optimization, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience working with secure transaction flows and compliance standards.

AI & Modern Engineering

• Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity.
• Strong understanding of how LLMs and generative AI can be embedded in developer workflows.
• Passion for modernizing engineering practices using automation and AI.

Data & Business Acumen

• Comfortable analyzing data, dashboards, and business metrics.
• Ability to connect technical decisions to revenue impact.

Leadership Skills

• Strong executive communication skills.
• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams.
