Something we build for UniPro may improve our own operations first, become part of a Member-facing product, or turn into a practical approach we can help Members apply in their own businesses. ## WHAT YOU'LL DO You'll start by learning how UniPro actually works and where AI can improve a real process. You won't be doing that work on your own. You'll work side by side with Member Technology, Development, Data, Operations, Security, and business teams, using the same standards and delivery processes that support the rest of our technology environment. **Build and deliver useful AI solutions** - Design and build AI-enabled software, services, agents, integrations, and automation using appropriate technologies for the problem and the environment. - Prototype quickly, then take the ideas that work through architecture, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and support. - Work directly with model APIs and practical patterns such as structured outputs, tool or function calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, and human review where they make sense. - Work through established Git, pull request, code review, testing, and CI/CD practices with the IT teams responsible for the systems you are changing. - Work with the teams that own the data to make sure the information behind a solution is reliable enough to build on, and build evaluation and monitoring into what you ship. **Work with UniPro teams and our Members** - Sit with teams across IT, finance, procurement, rebates, Member operations, and Supplier relationships to understand where the friction really is before deciding what to build. - Consult directly with Members on practical AI opportunities, tool choices, implementation approaches, controls, and adoption, working with Member Technology and the other UniPro teams needed to support the work. - Help Members and internal teams understand what is realistic, where the tradeoffs are, and what needs more validation before it is ready for production use. - Run pilots with the people who will use the result, including Members where appropriate, measure what worked and what did not, and use that feedback to improve the next version. - Bring what we learn from Member work back into UniPro standards, reusable patterns, and Member-facing solutions where it can help the broader membership. **Help establish how AI is used responsibly** - Work with IT leadership and the appropriate IT teams to establish a standard process for evaluating, approving, building, and releasing AI capabilities across UniPro. - Help put the right controls around each use case, including risk assessment, data handling and security, architecture and code quality, testing and evaluation, documentation, ownership, monitoring, and long-term maintainability. - Help define when additional review, approval, or training is needed before a tool or feature is made broadly available, and make sure users have the guidance they need to use it well. - Contribute to UniPro's AI roadmap, bring a practical technical point of view to what is feasible and worth doing, and work with the responsible teams to deliver against it. - Test new models, tools, and frameworks when there is a reason to do so, and document what each material effort was meant to achieve and what it actually delivered. ## WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We're looking for someone who already knows how to build software and has gone far enough into applied AI to be useful on day one. You do not need to have trained models from scratch or spent years in an ML research lab. You do need strong development fundamentals, sound judgment, and evidence that you can turn new technology into something people can actually use and support. - Three to five years of professional software development experience, including hands-on work with applied AI, automation, data-intensive applications, or integrations. - Strong working knowledge of appropriate software development technologies, plus experience with APIs, authentication, SQL, Git, and modern software development practices. - Hands-on experience with large language model APIs and patterns such as structured outputs, tool or function calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, or semantic search. - Experience taking software past the proof-of-concept stage, including automated testing, CI/CD, cloud deployment, logging and monitoring, production support, and the tradeoffs around quality, cost, latency, security, and maintainability. - Enough comfort with data to query it, combine sources, validate quality, and work with the people who own it when the answer is not sitting in one clean table. - The ability to sit down with a non-technical colleague or Member, understand the real problem, explain the options and tradeoffs without jargon, and keep iterating when the first idea is not the right one. - A collaborative approach and comfort working across multiple IT and business teams rather than operating as a separate AI function. **Nice to have** - Experience with cloud and data platforms such as AWS, Azure, Snowflake, or similar. - Experience with Laravel/PHP, Vue, or working alongside a modern software application team. - Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Copilot, Power Platform, D365 F&O, or a background in foodservice, distribution, procurement, or supply chain. ## WHY YOU MIGHT WANT THIS JOB - You'll help shape how UniPro uses AI at a point when the standards, reusable patterns, and operating model are still being established. - Your work gets used.
