Job description

Want to see your code used by millions of passionate users? Chess.com is looking for a expert JavaScript engineer who takes pride in writing slick, readable and high-quality code.

Live Chess is the most challenging and used feature of our site where more than a million games, matches and tournaments are played and watched every day by people from all around the globe - including Grand Masters and the reigning Chess World Champion, Magnus Carlsen!

  • You love delighting users by writing code
  • You speak and write fluent English
  • You want to work at a real company of about 70 people. Not so big that you’re lost in the shuffle, but not a crazy napkin-idea startup that will probably fail
  • You know how to communicate ideas kindly
  • You are easy to work with and have a fun personality
  • You care about the future of JS: ES6/7, Vue.js

You will be using JavaScript to add features and optimize our real-time multi-player web-based game application. We have historically used AngularJS for our UI components, but most of our codebase is made of pure, classic JavaScript. We are moving away from Angular and to Vue.js.

  • JavaScript, JavaScript, JavaScript
  • AngularJS, Vue.js
  • HTML5+CSS3+LESS (we support only modern browsers!)
  • CometD real-time back-end
  • Webpack for building assets
  • Ghost Inspector for automated end-to-end testing
  • Github
  • Slack

We have a completely automated deployment pipeline and we deliver new code to our users several times per day.

Chess.com is the #1 online chess service with more than 16 million members. We have an awesome team of passionate developers from all around the world - from USA to Argentina to London to Poland to Russia to Serbia to Brazil. We are a hard-working, fun group of people who enjoy chess and love building a successful service that serves so many people.

  • We’re a fun, distributed team sprinkled around the world. And we’re all friends. You can meet us here: www.chess.com/about.
  • We’re a profitable, privately-held business.
  • We’re technologists and chess players who are lucky enough to have the opportunity to change the face of online chess forever.
